A Day Cleaning Dishes

A Day Cleaning The Dishes

They sit there patiently waiting for someone to clean them

They feel dirty and disgusting

I hate washing the dishes

It's a chore I always have to force myself to do.

The dish detergent looks like it wants to be used

it wants to do it's job and help those dirty dishes get their shine back

I fill up the sink, dreading every second of it

and finally pop open to detergent and pour some into the water filled sink

bubbles appear everywhere and a fresh smell fills the kitchen

I have finally sucked it up and decided to do the dishes

one by one I place the dirty dishes into the soapy water

wash the plates, glasses, forks and knives,

scrubbing and placing the clean dishes down to dry

FINALLY, the dishes that were once so dirty

are now sqeaky clean

clean enough to see your reflection in them,

I must have outdone myself with these one I thought to myself.

As I turn around to finally sit down and relax

I see my little brother running to the cupboard to grab a glass and a plate,My temper started to boil

as I said, "you better be planning on washing that dish once you're finished mister!!"

.....Oh, whyyyyy bother

Lyric and Meaning

"Come Over"

I turn the TV off, to turn it on again
Staring at the blades of the fan as it spins around
Counting every crack, the clock is wide awake
Talking to myself, anything to make a sound

I told you I wouldn’t call, I told you I wouldn’t care
But baby climbing the walls gets me nowhere
I don’t think that I can take this bed getting any colder
Come over, come over, come over, come over, come over

You can say we’re done the way you always do
It’s easier to lie to me than to yourself
Forget about your friends, you know they’re gonna say
We’re bad for each other, but we ain’t good for anyone else

I told you I wouldn’t call, I told you I wouldn’t care
But baby climbing the walls gets me nowhere
I don’t think that I can take this bed getting any colder
Come over, come over, come over, come over, come over

We don’t have to miss each other, come over
We don’t have to fix each other, come over
We don’t have to say forever, come over
You don’t have to stay forever, come over

I told you I wouldn’t call, I told you I wouldn’t care
But baby climbing the walls gets me nowhere
I don’t think that I can take this bed getting any colder
Come over, come over, come over, come over, come over

Come over, come over, come over, come over, come over.
Come over, come over, come over, come over, come over.

The form of this song is pretty much free verse. There is no regular rhyme scheme to this song. The song is organized into four lines in each particular stanza which makes the song more organized even though there is no regular rhyme scheme or poetic devices used.

The speaker of this song is the author, he refers to himself in first person point of view and he seems to be singing in a desperate tone and also seem to be sad and let down. In the song he claims to be "talking to himself" and "turning the TV on and off" which symbolizes his sadness and how he is heart broken.

Chesney explained the song's meaning: "'Come Over'" is about two people who are as broken as their relationship is, when they realize deep down that their time together has probably ran its course," he seems to think that they keep going back to each other because it's familiar. It's about emotionally feeling wanted in a moment, but it feels impossible to let anybody else fill that place. I like this song because a lot of people can relate to it and the meaning of this song is so true.

Poem of a minor

Haiku

The ladybug lands
Upon a bright clue flower
As the sun shines bright

Limerick

There once was a man named Jim
That fell down and broke a limb
It was because he fell from a house
Since he was scared by a mouse
"you're so clumsy" says his wife Kim.

I think that the way any poem is formatted influences the way in which the content is perceived by the reader. Especially in poems such as the limerick. The rhyming scheme allows for a comical to the poem and allows the reader to stay interested. Also in a Haiku the format influences the context since it is breif and to the point.

Introduction to Enlgish 1080

First of all my name is Miranda Antle I was born on May 4th, 1994 in Carbonear General Hospital. I grew up in a small town called Bryant's Cove but am currently living on University Avenue in St. John's, NL and attending Memorial University. In university I am studying Kinesiology and plan on becoming a pediatric physiotherapist. In general, I am an easy going person and I love spending time with my friends. In my house I live with four of my closest friends and I am enjoying it very much since I am such a sociable person. I am looking forward to learing new things during my four years at MUN, and then specializing my degree at Dal University.

I generally love to learn, I attended ballet classes from ages 4-18 and it was a great experience. I love meeting new people and I also love to read. My favorite book would be The Outsiders, but I am currently reading a book called Fifty Shades of Grey. For the most part I am very friendly and I can make friends anywhere I go. In this course I would like to improve my writing and also change my outlook on poems and literature.
